n Lime Pure Essential Oil (Citrus x aurantifolia) has a fresh, zesty & fruity-citrus aroma. It is the 'fruitiest' smelling of all the citrus oils.
In Aromatherapy we use Lime Essential Oil mostly for it's mood-boosting properties. It's just such an refreshing and invigorating aroma bursting with the distinct smell of Limes. It's also an aroma that men generally love.
Lime Essential Oil, like all other citrus oils have their essential oils in the peel. The oils in the peel are 'cold pressed' or 'steam distilled'. Most commonly you'll find Lime Essential Oil is 'cold pressed'. Cold pressed Lime smells absolutely fantastic, just like a fresh lime. If you plan on using Lime Essential Oil in a formula/recipe, please see cautions at bottom of the page. There are no cautions if you're diffusing Lime, just when you're using it topically.
Lime Essential Oil Uses:
Mood Boosting and Energizing: Lime oil has a citrusy and invigorating aroma that is uplifting, promotes mental clarity, and increases focus and concentration. We often use Lime in aromatherapy to combat feelings of stress, anxiety, and fatigue.
Cleansing and Purifying: Lime oil possesses antiseptic and disinfectant properties, making it useful for cleansing and purifying the air and surfaces. Try adding it to homemade cleaning products or diffusing it to freshen up a room.
Immune & Respiratory Support: Lime essential oil has antibacterial and antiviral properties due to it's high content of a-pinene and b-pinene that helps support the immune system and opens up airways. It can be used in a diffuser, direct inhalation or added to a carrier oil for a topical application to potentially boost immune function*. *Please see the cautions of using Lime topically at the bottom of this page.
Skin Care: Lime oil is known for its astringent properties, which can help tighten and tone the skin. It may assist in balancing oily skin, reducing blemishes, and promoting a clear complexion. *See cautions at bottom, it is important to dilute lime oil properly before using it topically to avoid skin irritation or photosensitivity.
We have 2 Diffuser Blends with an amazing Lime aroma.
LIME ESSENTIAL OIL CAUTIONS:
Firstly, there are NO CAUTIONS WHEN USING LIME ESSENTIAL OIL IN A DIFFUSER. IT'S PERFECTLY AND BEAUTIFULLY SAFE.
Lime Essential Oil that has been cold pressed (like the Lime we sell) is photoxoic. This means if you put Lime Oil directly on your skin or didn't dilute it enough with carrier oil and then go out in the sun, it could burn your skin. A hot bath can also trigger these phototoxic effects, so never add Lime Essential Oil to a hot bath.
- If you're adding Lime Essential Oil to a topical formula, the recommendation is not to exceed .7% of the total recipe.
