Rosewood Vs Ho Wood

Unsustainable Rosewood, meet Sustainable Ho Wood

Oh Rosewood, how we loved you. We loved your deep, rich hardwood and the gorgeous aroma of your essential oil. We loved it so much and we just didn't slow down and now we've threatened your existence.

"Today, rosewoods are believed to be the most heavily trafficked wild product in the world. Unfortunately, in order to meet this increasing demand for rosewood products, unsustainable harvesting practices have been employed in different regions leading to many species of rosewoods becoming endangered."

- Environment and Climate Change Canada

Rosewood is now an endangered species of tree due to deforestation at a rate higher than its natural growth or replanting capabilities. Specifically in South America.  The wood of the Rosewood trees are a gorgeous array of reds and browns. It's mainly harvested to feed the fine furniture industry, also a revered wood for making string instruments as it produces a beautiful tone.

To get essential oil from slow growing Rosewood, the tree needs to be chopped down & chipped, the leaves are used as well. The chips & leaves are then steam distilled to produce the essential oil.

If you've ever been to the Bombay Furniture company, you've seen Rosewood. It's what almost all their deep, rich hardwood furniture was made from.

The great news is the completely sustainable Ho Wood Tree growing throughout Asia produces a fantastically similar aroma and chemical make up to our beloved Rosewood. Ho Wood is high in Linalool. So we know it's properties include being sedative, calming and safe for most skin types.

Found most abundantly in Japan and Taiwan, Ho Wood can grow in a wider range of environments compared to Rosewood. With a remarkedly similar aroma resembling the woody and floral properties of Rosewood Ho Wood makes a beautiful substitute for this unique and captivating scent.

Ho Wood is a beloved oil for its enticing aroma, for it's calming nature and it's heart centered healing.  An excellent choice for meditation.
